Pavazham
Uruthi Varthai Decor . Erode, Tamil Nadu
The Concept
Designed for an Uruthi Varthai ceremony in Erode, Pavazham draws its palette from the warmth of coral stone and the quietness of a jasmine dawn. The design intent was to honour Tamil ritual geometry — specifically the kolam as an architectural symbol — within a composed, contemporary wedding framework. Blush plaster, oxidised bronze, and living floral texture work together to bring a sense of grounded splendour to the ceremonial space.
The Entrance
The arrival experience is framed by a lavender-toned backdrop panel dressed with four suspended flower boxes in blush pink, each carrying mixed garden blooms in violet, coral, and peach. A single carved kolam motif at the centre of the panel sets the geometric language that runs through every subsequent space in the venue. Jasmine strings with red carnation tassels mark the periphery in the tradition of a toran, placing the event squarely within Tamil ceremonial form.
The Stage
The main stage in Erode is anchored by a full-height rounded arch in blush plaster, set flush against large laser-cut jali panels in an oxidised bronze finish. Within the arch, vertical strands of jasmine and coral carnations hang in varying lengths across a soft white drape, creating the impression of a living threshold. A carved teak settle with a blush cushion centres the composition as the ceremonial seat, flanked by hammered brass vases and woven tropical leaf panels.
The Centrepiece
The arch is the design’s singular statement — unadorned in itself, its power comes entirely from what frames it. The jali panels on either side carry intricate botanical motifs that shift tone as light moves across the metalwork. Against this architectural weight, the hanging garland strands inside the arch read as something almost devotional — a curtain of jasmine and coral that marks where the ceremony happens.
The Artist's Corner
Two large kolam motifs in metallic rose gold are mounted on the side walls of the stage — one rendered as a compact diamond grid, the other as intersecting ring forms with a scrolling surround. They function as both cultural reference and graphic anchor, drawing the eye across the full stage and tying the side walls into the central arch. On the entrance panel, a matching carved kolam in blush completes the visual conversation, giving the entire event space a single, coherent narrative thread.
